Wumi is married!!! All about the 6th of December!

My best friend got married yesterday. Whoop! Before I tell you all I can about the wedding, maybe I should tell you a bit about her.

I met Wumi in Birmingham in late in 2010, at church (the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Covenant Restoration Assembly, Perry Barr). Someone had gotten his friend to invite me to church, and I remember the morning they came to get me with the church bus, I wasn’t sure I had heard a louder group. But service was great, I fell in love with the church, and Wumi and I started to chat.

I don’t know when I fell in love with her, but I did. Real? Check. No airs? Check. Daughter of God to the letter? Check. Kind? Check. Caring? Check! I could go on and on. Wumi knows me sometimes a bit more than I know myself, and she loves me like that. Just like that.

We’ve been through sick days, heartbroken days, days we were broke (like last to our last 10 pounds type of broke), happy days, excited days, plenty money type of days, we’ve been through loads of stuff together. And we’ve come out stronger. Each and every time.

Ok. Before we have a problem keeping her head in check (with all my praising), on Friday my sister, nephew and I were supposed to fly into Lagos (I’d left Lagos on Wednesday), and then Momma was supposed to come in as well (see how special Wumi is to all of us)? Coordinated the flights so we’d land about the same time. There’s a little race of life story, one in which we forgot to take identification for Boo Boo so like halfway into the trip to the airport we had to run back to the house, and then start flying back to the airport.

Timecheck when we got to the airport gate and met the queue of our lives? 9.49am. Flight time? 10am. Let’s just say we still made the flight, and I’ll spare you the details of us pleading at the counter, racing to the plane, and then finding out that our friend at the airport had actually moved from one airline to the one we were to take! Na wa! To think we were looking for people to help us board!

Got into Lagos ok, Momma landed a bit after, and off to the hotel we went. Can I say money spent on hotels in Lagos doesn’t really go far? And I will leave it like that.

Wumi and Bimbo came a bit after, and then we really got in the ‘wedding’ mood! I had to nip off to Shoprite with our cabbie to buy some items, and Momma and the gang took a stroll. Dinner over, loads of gisting after, gifts presented, it was bedtime! Was I exhausted or what!

Saturday morning, D-Day!

Rushed a shower, and went over to the room where the photo crew, makeup artists et al were already at work. And here the photos begin!

Then we milled into our cars and headed to the venue for the engagement…

No he wasn’t about to kiss her, he was just ‘telling her something’…lol!! This pose was a special request from me to be honest, don’t ask me why!

Engagement over, it was time to change and head to the church. Did I mention my darling Boo Boo was ring bearer? Want to see his suit? Hotter than fire!!

Thank God for Beloxxi biscuit which my nephew loves and therefore can be used to get him to stand still!

A little side view… God finished work on my nephew walai, like there’s nothing else that could have been done!

Sharing a kiss and a cuddle with Grandma! Did I mention he always mixes them up? So sometimes he calls the ‘Pa’, ‘Ma’. Lol.. Love him to pieces!

Then, it was off to the car to be sure our super bride was ok, not needing anything, that kind of super FGS type business (he he he). Beautiful, so beautiful!

I’m definitely doing cream/ivory on my day… It’s such a gorgeous color!

Ahh!! Here’s the fun bit! We’d been trying to get Boo Boo to walk with a card that said “Here comes the bride”. Well, on the day it didn’t quite work. Want to know what worked? This photo of him and the little bride – cute as anything!

Two year old and one year old – something says we should stay in touch with the mom as per bride for my boy! What do you think? Baby girl had the cutest smile!

I managed to get a selfie with my boy inside the church – don’t even wrinkle your noses biko, anything to keep him awake, he was exhausted!

All the formalities done, it was time to head back to the events center for the reception! But first, a few photos!

The couple and the sisters!!! My nephew was two minutes from asleep at this point!

Then it was off to the reception, where I said a few words about the cake and the couple (couple I know, cake I didn’t bake), and the food was really yummy! Tokes came too (yay), and it was really nice to see her!

Then we danced! Wow! Turn up.com! At some point my people had to leave to catch flights back home and as soon as they were safely at the airport (Lagos traffic, sigh), I could relax. I think the number of squats I did yesterday (to pick money) has covered up for all the exercise I haven’t done in weeks!!

It was a really gorgeous day, and I’m so pleased that despite a few hitches that reared up during all the planning. we had a full, fun day. They’re married, God’s name was glorified in everything, and I’m looking forward to being a godmother to their munchkin (guys – take the hint and get to work already biko)!

Wumi and KP, I love you two to the moon and back, and I know your marriage is blessed, is fruitful, and will become an example for marriages everywhere. Success, peace, love, joy, togetherness, great intimacy, patience, I wish you both these and many more. Welcome to the best years of your lives!

Rev E.A Adeboye on “Overcoming mountains”

Keeping up with my goal this year to cram knowledge (spiritual/intellectual) into my times on my computer as much as I can, I’ve rediscovered YouTube. It’s become like a church to me now, and I can attend services from Lagos to Dallas, to Hong Kong!

A few days ago, I felt like I needed to listen to Rev. E.A Adeboye (or Daddy G.O like a lot of people call him), and so, off to YouTube I went. The text below is my note from a sermon he preached titled, ‘overcoming mountains’. It blessed me, and I thought I would share!

Bibles, pens and notepads out, and may God bless His word in our hearts! Amen.

He started by saying, “A mountain is a hindrance to my progress, an obstruction, anything standing between me and actualization of my destiny”.

Big and negative-looking as they may be, mountains can be positive/used by God for many other reasons.

1. To advertise/showcase His children. Remember David and Goliath?

2. To wake us up from our slumber and draw us closer. Acts 12.1

3. To develop our spiritual muscles. Joseph morphed from dreamer to interpreter of dreamers in prison.

4. To expose our inner potential. Phillip discovered he was an evangelist after Stephen was killed and he fled to Samaria.

5. To lay the foundation for great testimonies. Think Lazarus, the Shunammite woman, the widow of Nain, list is endless.

*A mountain gives the assurance that there is something great/precious on the other side, and we will never know the extent of the deposits God has put inside us till problems/challenges come.

The size of the mountain facing us is directly proportional to our destinies. Numbers 19: 26 – 33. Heavy weight champions for God face heavy weight mountains, while baby Christians face little challenges, to ‘exercise their faith’.

Seven ways we can deal with mountains (you decide which one you want to use)

1. Turn back. Numbers 14: 1-4, Hebrews 10:38

2. Wasted effort, but walk around the mountain. Exodus 14:15

3. Climb it. This is energy-intensive but better than 1 and 2. Numbers 13:30. 1 Samuel 17: 51

4. Bore a hole/dig a tunnel through it. Note than the mountain still exists but somehow you can make it through. Exodus 14: 21-28

5. Blast it out-of-the-way. God reduced the wall of Jericho to rubble. Joshua 6:20

6. Mark 11:22-23. Relocate it somewhere else. All I need for this is my faith in God, and my declarations.

7. Fly over it! Whoop! “Those that wait upon the Lord shall mount up with wings as eagles…”

Note, my darlings that if you are not born again, nothing for you. Without a relationship with Jesus, if you try to move any mountain, they will laugh in your face because they don’t know you. Remember the sons of Sceva in Acts 19:11-17?

Note also that some mountains exist because we have put them there. We can by our own hands, place obstacles in our paths by the things we do.

Then Daddy Adeboye asked everyone to pray but for some reason, whoever was filming stopped then. SMH. So, I searched for a prayer service and joined in! Some of these prophecies stood out for me and I just thought I’d share them with you…

No matter the darkness around you this year, your light will shine bright

The Lord will speak peace to every storm in your life

The reasons for your stagnation will be revealed, addressed, and eliminated

This is our year of completeness (in many sense of the word)

Did you say amen? I did!

WELCOME TO CHURCH: THE HOLY SPIRIT

To start with, I must apologise for neglecting this category on the blog for this long; it wasn’t intentional, and the truth is no excuse suffices. Imagine if the Lord ‘unintentionally’ forgot to wake us up everyday? Or if He ‘unintentionally’ neglected us, even for a few seconds? The devil would have us either on a stick (a la kebab), or as minced meat! Take a minute, and thank the Lord for His unfailing mercies, even when we are unfaithful.

Imagine wht would happen if God went on break for one minute?

I was in church this past Sunday, taught the youth Sunday School class (for the first time) on Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs, and I thank God for his grace… I think I did well, and the message was delivered. By the way, if you live in Perry Barr and you’re not worshipping with RCCG Covenant Restoration Assembly Perry Barr, I don’t think you are home yet!

The sermon today was on The Holy Spirit, and I enjoyed it so much I have reproduced it here for your benefit. I trust that you’ll be blessed by it as much as I was, in Jesus name! Amen!

The pastor started by saying that sometimes when we pray, God ignores our prayers because we ask for things lower than we deserve, which He has lined up for us. He used the man at the Gate Beautiful (Acts 4) who asked Peter and John for alms but instead received strength to his limbs. Then he prayed that God give us blessings bigger than what we have ever imagined. Amen o!

John 14:17-18 says, ” Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  ¹⁸I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

The Purpose of The Holy Spirit.

1. Divine partnership – any believer living without the Holy Spirit is living as an orphan; they will struggle to do things that The Holy Spirit would normally have done for them. John 9: 1-3.

The Work of The Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit validates the message of the gospel, showing that what has been preached is of God. Mark 16:20

2. The Holy Spirit is there to expose satan and his works. John 16:7-11, Acts 16:16-18

3. The Holy Spirit transforms our lives. 1Samuel 10:6-7

Acts 4:16-20

John 16:13 says “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come”

4. The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities. Romans 8:26

Who Needs The Holy Spirit?

* Everyone. Acts 2:38-39. It is not the exclusive preserve of ministers alone, but something every son and daughter of God must have.

What To Do?

1. If you’re not in Christ, you are in trouble! If christians not baptized in The Holy Spirit have to struggle, how much more the person who doesn’t even have Christ in the first instance?

2. Hunger, thirst, and yearn for The Holy Spirit if you have not yet been baptized.  says “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”

3. If you are baptized in the Holy Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues), don’t get relaxed, or feel you have arrived. There are various measures/levels of operating in The Spirit, so constantly ask yourself, ‘where am I’?

Acts 2:39 – “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.”
