She was calling, crying, howling, sighing,

but no one heard her cry

with no friends, family, very bitter reality

the society turned a blind eye

‘Make it I must, got no one to trust

in rain and sun she toiled

but nice, nice try, nice push, if you must

with no family, the society scoffed

Twas’ a fateful day, or so the tales do say

walking after long hours of toil

the sons of Hades, perverted in a Mercedes

stared and ground to a halt

‘She’s pretty’, he said, ‘and lonely’, he said

today’s our lucky day

Let’s feed our lust, thrust after thrust

surely she won’t say nay

She screamed and screamed, and screamed and screamed

But two overpowered the one

And so defile her they did, yes defile her they did

And poured their gunk in her core

‘Why me’, she cried, pain burned inside

and burned for days and nights

‘end it I must, got no one to trust

this curse won’t see past dusk’

Fateful was the night her senses and hope in flight

she did and would do no more

for what was found, neatly in a mound

the fruits of an overdose at dawn.

  1. Its funny the kind of assumptions the world makes about one. they look at you and just believe you have it going good for you and do not have a right to complain. no one bothers to ask if you are alright or if everything is fine with you. rather, they just want all that you have for themselves – reason? some unfathomable lust that just keeps growing with every conquest. Fairygodsister, you have struck gold with this. inspired by a true story? i decided to speak metaphorically of course.

    • Actually, this poem was inspired by loads of stories that abound everywhere I go. From your comment I think you have embraced one of the impressions this poem gives, and that’s the beauty of poetry. Do this for me though, read it again, find another impression to it, and let me know!

    • Awww, I’m glad you liked it! How do you think I should touch it up? I’d love to hear your thoughts. And, what’s your example of a ‘relevant’ event?

      • On ‘touching-up’ the poem, well, I’ve copied the text and will e-mail you a slightly modified version alongside my comments before the week runs out [this week’s looking rather hectic…Plus, I’m not a master Poet:) ]

‘Relevant event’: Maybe a ‘sisters meeting’, an event where Violence Against Women is a discussion theme, amongst men (be sure to have a bodyguard sha o .. lol!) You could also read it out to friends in informal gatherings, you know…

Below’s the link to a poem I wrote two months ago. Like this one, it can also be interpreted on different levels. In fact, I felt ‘virtue leave me’ after writing it as soon as I got the inspiration! Enjoy!: http://tiny.cc/stb66

      • Been to your blog and back! I see what you mean. About relevant events, everywhere I’ve performed this peom, people immediately link it to rape, violence against women, and like issues. Funnily, I had a tottaly different theme in mind when I wrote this. I guess that’s the beauty of poetry though, one line, many meanings.

  6. well, i could also see from the view that a soul is trying to battle addiction. the more she battles, the deeper she falls into it. this is a self trying hard to fight with self. who wins the battle? she traded her soul but is now trying to win it back in the physical. the result is fateful.

I really liked this, Fairygodsister. What stuck out to me was “but two overcame the one”–this could be interpreted in different ways–but you are the writer and I’m the reader–don’t know specifically what you were thinking but I do know I like your writing.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Sam, the truth is I actually wanted to write it as a story before but I knew I probably wouldn’t finish it. This for me, was the perfect way to express myself, and I’m almost overwhelmed with the reception it’s gotten. Thank you!
